Bohr's Model of the Atom
2C
What is the Bohr Model of the atom?
Niels Bohr was a Danish scientist who developed this essential model of atomic structure in 1913. Many scientists were investigating the structure of atoms, and Bohr built upon the Ernest Rutherford model. The main components of the model included a positively charged nucleus surrounded by electrons that orbit the nucleus in a planetary model.

Hook:
Start off with a demo of a light being shone through a prism and how it can be separated into different colours. Have class do a think-pair-share about why this happens. Get the thoughts of some of the students. Tie this idea in with how electrons have different energy levels as they orbit a nucleus.
Action:
Use a SmartBoard or blackboard to go over the key terms related to this concept. Show the applications about how atomic spectrum can be used to assess elements of far away stars.
Consolidation:
Have students complete KWL about what they have learned in the class. This slip can be used to assess where the students are at academically.
