Foundations of Professional Practice
.Below is a general outline of how this section aligns itself with the foundations of professional practice as mandated by the Ontario College Teachers. Individual lesson plans make reference to the standards where applicable.
Commitment to Students and Student Learning: The activities and framework for teaching the topics of energy changes have been structured to accommodate individual student learning. A variety of teaching ideas has been proposed to differentiate instruction for all of our different learners.
Professional Knowledge: The material to be covered adheres to the curriculum guidelines for strand D of the Ontario curriculum for grade 12 university chemistry. The videos and other teaching ideas are current and cover the most recent scientific discoveries. Incorporated in this section of the website are aspects of the author's own teaching experience as well as knowledge gained through the teacher’s education program to bring the content to life and give it some meaning to students. Leadership in Learning Communities: This layout for teaching reaction rates heavily incorporates group work. This is an attempt to create equal opportunities for students to share the leadership role as well as work and communicate in an effective manner to learn the concepts. The various activities suggested require collaboration and group work as well as hopefully promote equal leadership opportunities. Professional Practice: Tried and tested approaches have been incorporated using technological resources and activities that have been proven effective. Nothing works 100% of the time, but using our professional judgement we can hopefully distinguish what will be successful and when. There are several opportunities for inquiry based learning that model the flipped classroom. Ongoing Professional Learning: The teaching activities have been refined multiple times to try and find a combination that works. The website can be updated and expanded to offer the best new and fresh ideas for reaching our students. This section of the website is the product of reflection on the author's own teaching experience in an attempt to try and make it as fun and useful/educational as possible! |
