INSTRUCTIONS FOR "ELECTROCHEMISTRY JEOPARDY: THE GAME"
GENERAL SUGGESTIONS
In order to maximize student participation, I suggest having three people administer the game: Host, Scorekeeper, and Game Operator.
The Host:
The Scorekeeper:
The Game Operator:
The Host:
- The host is responsible for introducing the game, reading the categories at the start of each round, reading the clues, and judging and/or reading the answers.
The Scorekeeper:
- The scorekeeper is responsible for keeping score for all of the teams. If a team provides the correct response to a clue, they earn the value of the clue. If they answer incorrectly, the value is subtracted from their score. The questions range in value from 10 to 50 points.
- In the electronic version of the game, since the score can be adjusted electronically, the scorekeeper and the game operator are the same person.
The Game Operator:
- The Game Operator is responsible for running the PowerPoint game board and, in both versions, for identifying the first team to indicate they know the answer (whether via a buzzer system, raising hands, etc.). In the PowerPoint version, the game operator is also responsible for keeping track of the used-up categories.
ELECTRONIC VERSION
- Play individually or up to five teams. The "game operator/scorekeeper" determines (by chosen method) which team picks first.
- The team then picks a category and a point value.
- The "game operator/scorekeeper" clicks on the chosen box for the question.
- Students must give the answer in the form of a question before the "game/operator" clicks again. The teacher (or the "game host") may want to set a time limit for answering the question.
- To see if a student or group is correct, the "game operator/scorekeeper" clicks again for the answer.
- If the student or team is correct, they are awarded the point value of the question. In this version of the game, the "game operator/scorekeeper" can adjust the team scores electronically once the team has given an answer.
- To return to the main board, the "game operator/scorekeeper" clicks on the home icon (bottom left corner).
- Continue until all questions have been answered. The team with the most points wins.
POWERPOINT VERSION
- Play individually or up to five teams. The "game operator" determines (by chosen method) which team picks first.
- The team picks a category and a point value on the board (Slide # 2).
- The "game operator" clicks on the chosen box for the question. The "host" reads the question out loud.
- Students must give the answer in the form of a question before the "game operator" clicks again. The "host" may want to set a time limit for answering the question.
- To see if a student or group is correct, the "game operator" clicks again for the answer.
- The "scorekeeper" is responsible for keeping score for all of the teams. If a team provides the correct response to a clue, they earn the value of the clue. If they answer incorrectly, the value is subtracted from their score.
- The "game operator" goes back to the board (Slide # 2).
- Continue until all questions have been answered. The team with the most points wins.
